This Privacy Policy explains how Is it Vegan? VeganScanner collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Is it Vegan? VeganScanner iOS application and related support services.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to Is it Vegan? VeganScanner, the iOS application that helps users scan barcodes, read ingredient labels, save shopping results, and optionally use AI-powered ingredient analysis and chat features.

By using Is it Vegan? VeganScanner, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Data Is it Vegan? VeganScanner may collect

  1. Scan inputs you provide. This can include barcode numbers, ingredient text, product names, brand names, notes you type, and photos you capture or select for ingredient or barcode analysis.
  2. Locally stored app content. Is it Vegan? VeganScanner stores scan history, saved or trusted products, confidence results, notes, region preferences, and certain scan images on your device.
  3. Subscription and purchase data. If you use Premium, Apple and RevenueCat may process subscription status, product identifiers, entitlement status, and transaction-related data needed to validate and restore purchases.
  4. Diagnostics and usage data. Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics may collect app interaction events, device and app diagnostics, crash logs, performance context, and identifiers needed to understand app stability and usage.
  5. Support communications. If you email support, we collect the information you choose to include in your message, attachments, and follow-up correspondence.

3. Data Is it Vegan? VeganScanner does not request as core permissions

  • No microphone or audio recording permission.
  • No contacts permission.
  • No location permission.
  • No HealthKit or medical-record access.
  • No account registration is required to use the core app.

4. How data is collected

  • Directly from you when you scan, import, type, save, or email support.
  • Automatically from the device when the app records diagnostics or subscription status.
  • From third-party product data services when you search for or scan a product barcode.

5. How Is it Vegan? VeganScanner uses data

  1. To scan barcodes and ingredient labels and generate vegan-status results.
  2. To provide AI-powered OCR, ingredient reasoning, clarity summaries, and product chat where enabled.
  3. To save your history, trusted products, notes, and preferences on your device.
  4. To deliver and restore Premium subscription access.
  5. To monitor app quality, crashes, and product performance.
  6. To respond to support, bug reports, and legal or privacy requests.
  7. To maintain security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention for the AI proxy.

6. Third parties and data sharing

Is it Vegan? VeganScanner may share information with service providers only to operate, improve, secure, and support the app. These third parties are expected to provide the same or equal protection of user data as described in this Privacy Policy and required by applicable law and Apple policy.

  • Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for analytics, diagnostics, and crash reporting.
  • Firebase Remote Config to configure app behavior such as free scan limits and AI settings.
  • RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements, restores, and purchase state.
  • Apple for In-App Purchases, billing, subscription management, and App Store services.
  • Open Food Facts for barcode and product catalog lookups.
  • USDA FoodData Central for optional supplemental product lookup.
  • Cloudflare to proxy AI requests, apply rate limits, and secure API traffic.
  • OpenAI to provide optional AI-based OCR, ingredient interpretation, result clarity, and chat responses.

7. Important AI disclosure

When AI features are enabled and you use them, Is it Vegan? VeganScanner may transmit the content necessary to service your request, including ingredient text, raw recognized label text, product context, barcode, region, and images you capture or select for scan analysis. These requests are sent through the Is it Vegan? VeganScanner Cloudflare proxy and may then be sent to OpenAI to generate a response.

AI output may be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated. Is it Vegan? VeganScanner is a shopping assistance tool and not a substitute for reading product labels, confirming allergen information, or seeking medical or professional advice.

8. Local storage and retention

  • Scan history, notes, saved products, preferences, and locally persisted scan images remain on your device until deleted by you or removed when the app is uninstalled.
  • Cached or supporting files may remain temporarily as needed for app operation.
  • Support emails are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, comply with law, or enforce our rights.

9. Provider-side retention

  • Crash, analytics, and subscription data may be retained according to Firebase, RevenueCat, and Apple policies and the service configuration in use.
  • AI requests may be processed by Cloudflare and OpenAI according to their applicable service and privacy terms.
  • We do not promise a shorter retention period than what these providers require to perform the service, secure their systems, or comply with law.

10. Your choices and controls

  1. You can decline camera access and still use non-camera parts of Is it Vegan? VeganScanner, such as manual search or pasted ingredient text, when available.
  2. You can choose not to import photos from your library.
  3. You can remove scan history entries and trusted products within the app.
  4. You can revoke iOS permissions in the device Settings app at any time.
  5. You can contact support at ravi.patel20102002@gmail.com to request deletion of provider-held support data or to make a privacy request.
  6. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.

11. Data deletion and access requests

Is it Vegan? VeganScanner does not require a user account for core app usage. Most user-created content is stored locally on your device. You can delete local content directly in the app or by uninstalling the app.

For privacy requests relating to support email records or provider-held data that we can reasonably identify and process, contact ravi.patel20102002@gmail.com with the subject line Is it Vegan? VeganScanner Privacy Request. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify and fulfill the request.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect information processed through Is it Vegan? VeganScanner. However, no method of storage, transmission, or security control is guaranteed to be completely secure.

13. Children

Is it Vegan? VeganScanner is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

14. International processing

Third-party providers used by Is it Vegan? VeganScanner may process data in countries other than your own. By using the app, you understand that data may be processed where those providers operate, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page. Material changes become effective when posted unless a different date is stated.
